Tammy Pannekoek      | In mariage do thou be wise:
                     | prefer the person before money,
                     | virtue before beauty,
                     | the mind before the body;
                     | then thou hast a wife, a friend,a
                     | companion,

                     | WHY GOD BELIEVES IN MARRIAGE
                     | by Elder Ralph Blodgett

                     | In life on earth there are three major
                     | events:

                     |     *birth     *baptism    *wedding

                     | Tonight we are witnessing one of those
                     | special events, the wedding between
                     | a couple brought together by this new
                     | communication medium called "Cyberspace."
                     | This is not a pretend wedding,
                     | but a fully legal and official wedding
                     | of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
                     | (Please, hold your conversation and
                     | congratulations for after the
                     | benediction, or for the Reception
                     | following the wedding--in the Reception
                     | Hall [the Auxiliary Conf. Room].)
                     | One of my favorite poems related to
                     | marriage is the following:

                     |  "Love is not passion, love is not pride,
                     |   Love is a journeying side by side.
                     |   Deeper than ecstasy, deeper than light,
                     |   Born in the sunshine, born in the night,
                     |   Glorious in victory, strongest in loss,
                     |   Love is a sacrament, made for a cross."

                     | Interestingly we joke about a wedding as
                     | "tying the knot."
                     | But the only difference between UNITED
                     | and UNTIED Is where you place the "I".
                     | And this is true in marriage, too.
                     | If you put yourself (the "I") first, your
                     | marriage is doomed.

                     | I believe God has given marriage for
                     | three basic reasons:

                     | 1) the happiness of humanity
                     | 2) the spirituality of humanity
                     | 3) the growth of humanity                    |

                     | I would briefly like to talk about those
                     | three points tonight:

                     |A) MARRIAGE IS FOR THE HAPPINESS OF
                     |   HUMANS (Gen. 2:

                     | "And the Lord God said, It is not good
                     | that the man should be alone; I will make
                     | him an help meet."

                     | And, as you know, God took a rib from
                     | Adam's side--indicating the woman is not
                     | to be trod underfoot, nor to rule over the
                     | man.

                     | Humans are social creatures: baby with
                     | mother, child with brothers and sisters,
                     | kids with schoolmates, teens with
                     | boyfriends and girlfriends, and adults
                     | with life's companion and with other
                     | adults.

Jolene  E. Heinz     | Congradulations to the happy couple,
                     | I give you the Irish Blessing:

Sysop Ralph Blodget  | [PLEASE no conversation]

                     | But a successful marriage involves mutual
                     | trust.

                     | I read about a 38-year-old wife in Ohio
                     | who had a birthday coming up. She had been
                     | saving money to spend a romantic weekend
                     | with her husband. Just then he told her
                     | he was leaving on a weeklong fishing trip.
                     | She became so mad that he forgot her
                     | birthday that she went out early in the
                     | morning that he was going to leave and put
                     | 2 small nails against 2 tires on his
                     | 4-wheel drive off-road vehicle,
                     | vehicle, so they would puncture the
                     | tires as he drove off and produce a slow
                     | leak.

                     | She drained half the fuel out of his boat
                     | and added a tiny pinhole so any new
                     | fuel would gradually leak out. Then she
                     | replaced his 10-lb test line on his
                     | fishing rod with 2-lb test line. And she
                     | removed his fishing license from the
                     | glove compartment.

                     | As he left on the trip, she began to feel
                     | guilty. Then on her birthday he called
                     | home. He said he had planned to come home
                     | early for her birthday, but his fishing
                     | trip turned into a disaster,
                     | he reported.  His vehicle
                     | had 2 flat tires, boat fuel tank had a
                     | leak, and he spent so much money making
                     | repairs that he didn't have any left over
                     | for the expensive diamond necklace
                     | birthday present he had planned to give
                     | her.

                     | Then he explained he had entered a
                     | fishing tournament to win an
                     | all-expense-paid vacation
                     | for two to Disney World in Florida for
                     | their anniversary. And he had actually hooked
                     | a trophy-winning bass--one he was sure would
                     | win the tournament. But the line snapped
                     | before he could get it to the boat. And then
                     | he got arrested for fishing without a
                     | license. All the money he had was spent on
                     | paying his bills and fine.

                     | Needless to say,the wife was very embarrassed.

                     | Marriage needs trust. A good marriage is
                     | *never* an accident. It is an accomplishment
                     | between two individuals.

                     | B) MARRIAGE IS FOR THE SPIRITUALITY OF HUMANS

                     | Paul, while discussing marriage in 1 Cor.
                     | 7:39, says a woman "is at liberty to be
                     | married to whom she will; only in the Lord."
                     | Why "only in the Lord"?
                     | Because it is virtually impossible for
                     | marriage to reach the full stature of
                     | happiness unless the couple agree spiritually.

                     | Marriage is like the joining of two streams
                     | into a new river:

                     |  >One stream muddy, one clear
                     |  >One fast, the other slow
                     |  >One shallow, the other deep
                     |  >One straight, the other curvy
                     | The blending of two rivers may take many
                     | hundreds of miles of travel together.
                     | Mingling, blending, flowing.
                     | Over rocks, through mountains. Over steep
                     | precipices.

                     | C) MARRIAGE IS FOR THE GROWTH OF HUMANS

                     | I have been growing prize-winning roses for
                     | many years. The proper planting of a rose is a
                     | real science. Certain things are necessary.
                     | Rosebushes need several important things
                     | to grow properly after planting:

                     |  * a sunny location
                     |  * proper watering
                     |  * peat moss when planted
                     |  * sand (grit) when planted
                     |  * composted fertilizer
                     |  * and a secret ingredient: bonemeal when
                     |    planted

                     | Likewise for a marriage:

                     |  * the sunny location is God's sunshine
                     |  * proper watering is daily tenderness by
                     |    both partners
                     |  * peat moss is love and encouragement
                     |  * sand (grit) is real-life problems, faced
                     |    together
                     |  * composted fertilizer is nourishment by a
                     |    Christian life--daily walking with the Lord
                     |  * and bonemeal is backbone--the couple's
                     |    dedication to making the marriage succeed.

                     | 6 RULES FOR A HAPPY MARRIAGE:

                     |  1) Never be angry at the same time.
                     |  2) Never yell at each other (unless the
                     |     house is on fire).
                     |  3) If one is to win an argument, make it the
                     |     other one.
                     |  4) Never bring up mistakes of the past.
                     |  5) At least once a day, say something kind
                     |     to each other.
                     |  6) When you have done something wrong, admit
                     |     it and ask forgiveness.

                     | To summarize, marriage is:

                     |   A) for the happiness of humans
                     |   B) for the spirituality of humans
                     |   C) for the growth of humans

                     | and cherish  the treasure,
                     | the treasure of you.

Rachel Twing-BRIDE   | As I obey the spirit's voice,
                     | and seek to do His will,
                     | I then can see the wisdom of his plan
                     | for as He works His will in me
                     | I then can love you selflessly,
                     | and by His grace can pledge my love to you.
                     | I cherish the treasure, the treasure of you
                     | Lifelong companion, I give my self to you

                     | Forasmuch as Randal Terwillegar and Rachel

                     | wedlock, and have witnessed the same
                     | before God and this company, and thereto have
                     | given and promised their loyalty each to the
