How to Have a Legal Cyber Wedding
Many people have asked how to have a cyber wedding that is legal. Here is what we did:
- Contact the State office which issues marriage licenses where you want to get married.
- Find out what the requirements are for a legal wedding.
- Ask if the law would recognize a cyber wedding.
If not, find out what you have to do to have a legal wedding. In Arizona the law was vague: "married in the presence of a minister and two witnesses." We could have challenged "in the presence of" but instead, we had a minister here as well as in Washington, D.C. Both signed the marriage license.
NOTE: We were both together for our wedding, on separate computers, hooked independently to the Internet. At the time of our wedding, it was text only. With video
conferencing, it is conceivable to hold a wedding with both or all three parties in separate locations.
