Because we were so thankful that the new Adventist Forum
brought us together, we decided that a unique online wedding would give publicity to the new forum throughout the Adventist Church. Discovering that a legal online
wedding had never been done before and that it was not difficult to make the ceremony legally binding, arrangements were made with the SYSOP of the Adventist Forum to get married online.
Randy proposed in a thread in the Adventist
Forum, Rachel accepted in his thread. The Adventist Forum meeting rooms were scheduled for the wedding and reception. Conference Room A was changed for the service to the
Wedding Chapel, and Conference Room B to the Reception Hall.
Over 150 computers worldwide (full capacity of the Forum) were connected to the Adventist Forum for the
wedding. Many more wanted to get into the Wedding Chapel but were not able to get in. Guests attended from all over the world . . . Hawaii, Australia, England, and the Czech Republic to name
a few countries. Computers were surrounded by people wanting to attend the first-ever service . . . we were told one home had 30 people there!
Forum members had a wedding shower for us in the Town
Hall section of the forum. In the Singles Network section members participated in the bridal bouquet and garter toss. The Health Department of the General Conference hosted our
wedding reception. They suggested that those online celebrate with Little Debbie Snack Cakes (white snack cakes) and Martinelli's sparkling grape juice!.
In telling our story on national television, "I've been assured," quipped Tom Brokaw on NBC Nightly News, "that the honeymoon will not be in virtual reality!" (Our
honeymoon was at Casa Sedona, in Red Rock Country, Arizona)! You may read the text of our cyber wedding complete with the names of all who participated in the
ceremony. Click here for more news media coverage of our wedding.
